Thanks for stopping by to have a look! I hope you like what you see. Constructive criticism is always welcome. Please post comments or drop me an email. The equipment I use is listed at the bottom of this semi-conscious rambling. Working for an engineer enables this photography habit of mine. It occasionally provides the opportunity to travel to nice, and some not so nice, places. Vacations always include shooting and then there are the dedicated photo trips. I always take my camera equipment on business trips longer than a week. Sometimes I get to add some vacation on at the end of those. How did I arrive at this point? It is a long and sordid story. It started with a Yashika manual 35mm SLR in the early 80s but I didn’t take anything more than snap shots. While living in FL, I learned to SCUBA dive, soon bought a Nikonus V and a little later a strobe as the blue images were not that exciting. Even though I was diving about every two weeks, as most new U/W photographers, the subjects were too, too far away. I had no real clue about getting good photos either above or below the surface. I moved to Huntsville, AL and did not get to dive as much as I did in Florida. The local dive shop started arranging trips to Bonaire. I took my first trip there in 1995, and have made at least one trip there most years since. While on the first few trips, I continued using the Nikonus V with slightly better results. Then the dive shop operator talked me into letting the genie out of the bottle so I jumped to an N80 with an Ikelite housing and 2 strobes. The images got only slightly better. Then I “moved to the dark side” and switched to a D70 inside an Ikelite housing. The instantaneous feedback and a class from a professional made for much better images, well fewer blue cast images anyway. A good friend of mine has been a land photographer for years and has some really nice images. Since I was only using my kit for a couple of weeks a year for underwater shots, I decided to start trying land photography. With lots of help/tips from him and a push to take a digital printing class, I am learning more than ever before. Another photographer friend has taught me how to find mellow black bears in the Smoky Mountains. Recently, I expanded into shooting the Huntsville Ballet Company performances. It is an enjoyable journey as I add subjects and techniques. The genie is even larger now with transition to a D3S and D800, my 4th Ikelite housing and Inon strobes for underwater. Some land shots are at least worth a second look. The local land trust used one of my shots for their 2007 Annual Report. Thanks for taking a look.
